Auckland Golf Marrowthon® 2005
An incredible $140,000 was raised by the heroic golfers and their caddies in the inaugural LBF Golf Marrowthon. Impressive precedents were set under beautiful clear blue skies at Aviation Country Club, when 34 brave golfers tackled the inaugural LBF 100 Hole Golf Marrowthon challenge. The golfers teed off with a shotgun start at 7.30am and were so keen to bag their first rounds before the sun slowed them that they needed to be cajoled into slowing down to pace themselves for the long day ahead. One golfer was even so enthusiastic that he was seen jogging beside his caddy-driven cart. Golf Pro Murray Clark decided one hundred holes just wasn't going to be enough and challenged himself to go for 400, still not content, and only stopping when the course closed. Murray completed an absolutely incredible 467 holes in one day. Even more incredible both he and his patient caddy were still smiling and upright when handed their prize at the Awards Dinner at 8pm. Other golfers also broke records and ALL our 'Marrowthoners' completed 100 holes. Several others also substantially exceeded the hundred hole barrier, most notably Dave Christianson who achieved 200 holes. We only hope their sponsors who sponsored them for a dollar a hole are still speaking to them today. Regency Duty Free player Richard Fong sped around and achieved his challenge in just under 4 hours! And What About the Caddies? Caddies, not to be outdone by their intrepid golfing partners, also got into the swing of things and certainly won the style files. Competition was stiff for the best dressed caddy between Craig Rendell (Joe Stanley's caddy) and Steven Fair, the long suffering supporter of Michael Blackman.
